Aug 15, 2016 I'm running Mac OS El Capitan 10.11.6. Recently my squeezebox stopped working because I cannot get Logitech Media Server to run. I click 'Start Server', and it says it's starting, then immediately stops. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling with no change. I also installed the new version 7.8 of LMS. How can I troubleshoot this? The only thing I believe that has changed is that I had to. Images for the virtual desktop are now being preloaded into RAM. When this is complete, you will be presented with the desktop and be able to browse all. . I want to do this. I have a firewall on my router, though. How would I set up the port forwarding? Would it be for TCP, UDP, or both, and what would be the starting and ending ports?
Also, more fundamentally, when I try testing it out on the machine with local access to the music, I click the Web Access button in the slimserver prefpane. It launches a web page and I can browse my music and load it into a playlist, but when I click play, though the play link is highlighted, I don't hear anything. Any ideas about what is wrong? It shouldn't matter that the music is actually on a firewire drive plugged into that computer, should it?
Hope someone can help me out. Thanks in advance.

If all you want to do is to listen via iTunes or some other program capable of connecting to the MP3 stream, then only port 9000 needs to be open on the firewall. Slimserver also comes with a free Java emulation of a Squeezebox, called Softsqueeze (also available separately). If you wish to use Softsqueeze to listen to your music then port 3483 is also required to be open, but you then don't need to use the web interface.
The advantage of using iTunes and the Slimserver web interface is that the connection between it and the Slimserver is straightforward http and so will work with corporate firewalls that also work outbound.
Any way to do this in Leopard? I can't quite seem to figure out the configuration for the firewall settings using Leopard and my Airport Extreme.
